At least when I was at Leixlip Castle, this was set up as a dining room. This is the room called the Gothic room in Irish Houses & Castles. The book shows a dining room in the tower. This is one of the oldest parts of the castle. I love these windows!
The windows open to the front of the castle. The room beyond is the Library, the Print Room. I know! I wish they weren’t blurry! But, they are… nothing to be done about it.
This door open into the Front Hall. Above are some of the 18th-century Irish Chippendale chairs purchased from the Malahide Castle sale in 1976.
“In Leixlip, Co. Kildare, is another example of an old castle being given a Gothic dress in the mid-18th century, probably while occupied by the rich Connollys who journeyed frequently between England and Ireland. Pointed windows were pierced through the thick walls and glazed in the Gothic revival manner, with very attractive results.”
