Early Native Americans left evidence that they enjoyed the abundant seafood and shellfish in the ocean, rivers and sounds around Hilton Head Island. European settlers included pirates and Sea Island Cotton plantations. It was the site of important Civil War battles. Freed slaves and their descendants made Hilton Head a center of Gullah Geechee culture.

Hilton Head Island hosts Festivals and Events all year long. Nearly any time you visit, something is going on. From the Wine & Food Festival. Italian Heritage Festival and Oyster Festival to the Beer, Bacon & Music Festival, Yacht Hop and Boiled Peanut Festival, there is something for everyone!
